Professional Drainage Experts (P.D.E) specializes in property preservation using commercial grade drainage systems to protect from water damage. CEO of P.D.E, Shanese Wells, gives you 5 ways to prevent your house from having water damage.

  1. Have a proper drainage system installed.

If your property has landscaping right along the side of the house, you should make sure that you install waterproofing and a french drainage system to properly move the water away. If you see water puddling in your garden or on concrete, your drainage system needs to improve.

2. Sloping is key.

A lot of problems we see are flat surfaces that make it difficult for water to flow to streets. Make sure that the concrete is sloped away from the house, but if it is sloped towards the house you should install grate drains to collect the water before it reaches the house.

3. Epoxy & Caulking

When inputting your drainage system we use key materials to make sure no leaks or cracks have any effect . It is beneficial to put in caulking or an epoxy to seal in the crack to stop water from seeping in.

4. Rain Gutters

If you do have rain gutters in your house, make sure that the downspouts are extended away and that they are run in ground to a curve cutter pop up to ensure water is being completely removed from the house.

5. Keeping your sprinkler away

One of the most common reasons why you may have water sinking in your home or efflorescence on your wall is because the sprinkler system is too close to your walls. Water is more powerful than you think and having all that water hitting your walls everyday will lead to damage. USE THE SPRINKLERS FROM A DISTANCE!
